Prime Minister Najib Miqati will preside an official Lebanese delegation to New York at the end of September to participate in the annual United Nations General Assembly's meeting, An Nahar newspaper reported on Wednesday.
According to the daily, the premier's speech will highlight the importance of implementing peace in the Middle East and Lebanon's ambition to witness its accomplishment.
He will voice his support to the Arab Spring and ending the crisis in Syria through the initiative of U.N.-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi or the four-way “contact group” that includes Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Miqati will address the conditions of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, who fled the violence in their country as he will stress the government's determination to halt the spread of chaos in Lebanon due to the turmoil in Syria.
The PM will also tackle Lebanon's commitment to the implementation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1701 and call for Israel's withdrawal from the Shebaa Farms, Kfarshouba and the northern part of Ghajar village.
He is expected to criticize Israel's continued violation of the country's airspace, in addition to the Exclusive Economic Zone that the two countries are bickering over.
The EEZ, which is a sea zone that gives a state the right to explore its maritime resources, consists of about 854 square kilometers and suspected energy reserves there could generate billions of dollars.
However, Lebanon was able to restore in June 530 square kilometers of the maritime zone that it considers it to be within its EEZ.
