Geagea: We are Waging Koura By-Election to Win it

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed on Thursday the political significance of Sunday’s Koura by-election, urging voters to “listen to their conscience.”

He said before an LF delegation: “We are waging the battle to win it due to its political and humanitarian importance.”

“The Koura of Charles Malek, the only individual in the region who helped draft the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, cannot be transformed to the Koura of (Syrian President) Bashar Assad, who is slaughtering his own people,” he added.

Addressing the recent Syrian shelling of Lebanese border regions in Akkar, Geagea questioned the government’s silence over the matter.

“Don’t these attacks violate national sovereignty? What is the government’s position on the issue?” he wondered.

“Why is it ignoring these developments?” he asked,

By-elections are set to take place on Sunday to fill in the parliamentary seat left vacant after the death of MP Farid Habib.

The election will be waged between SSNP candidate Walid Azar and LF candidate Fadi Karam.
