UAE Renews Advice to Citizens to Avoid Travel to Lebanon

The United Arab Emirates has renewed its call on its citizens to avoid travel to Lebanon and Syria over the security situation in the two countries despite a visit by President Michel Suleiman to Abu Dhabi to review the decision.

In a statement released on Monday, the UAE foreign ministry advised citizens not to travel to Lebanon and Syria out of its keenness on the safety of the nationals abroad.

The UAE and three other Gulf countries – Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait – issued travel warnings last month, a move that prompted Suleiman to carry out a Gulf tour.

During his visit to Abu Dhabi last week, UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan announced keenness on the security and stability of Lebanon .

Fighting prompted by sectarian tensions in Syria has unsettled the northern port city of Tripoli and shook the security in the area of Wadi Khaled and Akkar after tit-for-tat sectarian abductions.
