Ghosn: Tripoli Security Plan Will Be Implemented in Full

Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn stated on Sunday that the developments in Tripoli are jeopardizing Lebanon’s security stability.

He stressed in a statement: “The security plan that has been devised for the city will be implemented in full.”

A plan to deploy the army and security forces in the areas that have witnessed clashes in Tripoli has been put into effect on Sunday.

The minister added: “The army and security forces are completely up to this task and they will control the situation with an iron fist.”

“It is unacceptable for anyone to harm security and stability and turn the North into a chaotic region,” said Ghosn.

“A lot depends on the wisdom of the political leaderships and residents of the area,” he remarked.

“Political cover will not be provided to anyone,” he stated.

Clashes broke out Friday night between the rival Tripoli neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen leaving 12 dead and 50 wounded.

The neighborhoods have been gripped by frequent fighting, reflecting a split between Lebanon's parties where the March 14- led opposition backs the revolt in Syria while a ruling coalition led by Hizbullah supports the Damascus regime.
