Harb Hints Cabinet Collapse Hinges on Jumblat

March 14 opposition MP Butros Harb hoped on Sunday that Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat would stop his support for the government to force its collapse.

“Maybe under a certain circumstance, Walid Jumblat and his bloc would change their stance and we could file a vote of no confidence,” Harb said in response to a question as to how the opposition would seek a change of government.

“This government which was formed through a fake majority … won’t fall unless some sides that are controlled by (Hizbullah’s) arms were able to come out of their captivity,” he told An Nahar daily.

Another possibility was for Premier Najib Miqati to agree with President Michel Suleiman on his resignation over his failure to bridge the gap between the March 8 forces and the centrists that make up the government, the lawmaker said.

“We should seek to exercise our right to change this cabinet,” he stressed.

His remarks came after the March 14 forces called on Thursday for the formation of a “neutral salvation government."

The coalition said it will submit an initiative to Suleiman to “confront the attempt to ruin Lebanon.”
