Hariri: Ballot Boxes Best Reply to Nasrallah Remarks on Parliamentary Elections

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri noted on Saturday that the 2013 parliamentary elections will mark a “major turning point” in Lebanon’s history.

On Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s remarks that the March 14 forces will not hold the elections in light of the party’s possession of arms, he replied: “The ballot boxes are the best reply to his statements.”

The former premier made his remarks via Twitter on Saturday morning.

Asked about his opinion on Nasrallah’s speech on Friday, he said: “It’s the same speech, but on a different day.”

Commenting on a tweeter’s remark that the crater caused by the Damascus bombings on Thursday was similar to the crater caused by the attack that killed former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005, he responded: “If the Syrian regime is so sure of itself, it would allow an international investigation to look into the attack.”

Twin bombings struck the Syrian capital on Thursday morning, killing 55 people and wounding at least 100.

Nasrallah had stated on Friday that “the weapons that can affect the elections are the individual firearms and all parties have such weapons.”

“We call for further dialogue over the issue of elections and we support holding the polls on time,” he added.
