Hizbullah Refuses Formation of Technocrat Cabinet to Supervise 2013 Polls
Minister of State for Administrative Reform Mohammed Fneish slammed on Wednesday a proposal by al-Mustaqbal movement to form a neutral or technocrat cabinet to supervise the upcoming 2013 elections.
“There’s nothing called a technocrat or a neutral government. We have the Taef accord, unless we are required to import such a new combination,” Fneish told As Safir newspaper.
He told the daily that such a cabinet requires consensus among all the main political powers, who are already biased.
“All officials have political backgrounds and tend to support a team over the other,” Fneish said.
On the electoral law, the minister stated that Hizbullah supports the adoption of a draft-law based on proportional representation.
Fneish urged the cabinet to benefit from the time left before the elections and to become more productive.
“The other team will not admit to any accomplishment we are making… It refuses to see anything positive as long as it’s not in power,” he stressed.
Recently, al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc leader MP Fouad Saniora called on Sunday for the formation of a technocrat or neutral government to supervise the 2013 ballots.
