President Joseph Aoun met Thursday in Baabda with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and told her “there is an interconnected link between the stability of Lebanon and the stability of Europe and the region.”
“The Lebanese Army is fully carrying out its duty in the areas where it has deployed south of the Litani River in implementation of the framework agreement, while Israel continues to refrain from implementing its provisions,” Aoun added.
“Negotiation is the alternative to war, and an agreement is the only means to end the state of hostility between Lebanon and Israel,” the president stressed.
Separately, he said that Lebanon is committed to implementing economic reforms and passing the financial gap law, paving the way for signing an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Kallas for her part said “the European Union is ready to provide the necessary assistance to Lebanon, particularly to the army, the Internal Security Forces, and entities focused on social and humanitarian aspects.”
