Report: US determined to support Lebanese state and army
The prevailing direction in the White House is to provide the Lebanese president and government with what is necessary to solidify the framework agreement and establish a state capable of taking initiatives free from "the interference of Hezbollah or the axis it is aligned with," a U.S. diplomatic source said.
The source told al-Liwaa newspaper that the U.S. administration views the Lebanese Army as "the cornerstone of any approach aimed at consolidating stability and strengthening state authority."
