Berri meets US and French ambassadors, Magro says no French 'initiative'

Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri on Monday held separate talks in Ain el Tineh with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and French Ambassador Herve Magro.

Berri and Magro discussed the latest developments on the ground and the political situation resulting from Israel's continued attacks against Lebanon, the National News Agency said.

Following the meeting, the French envoy said: "We are continuing our efforts and working to resolve the issue."

Asked whether he was optimistic, the French ambassador said: "We are continuing to work to resolve this issue ... There is no French initiative, but rather ideas."

For his part, Berri praised "the efforts and endeavors exerted by France and its President Emmanuel Macron to stop the Israeli war on Lebanon and facilitate the return of displaced persons to their villages," emphasizing "the importance of adhering to and committing to the November 2024 agreement and the Mechanism committee as a practical and negotiating framework for implementing the agreement."
