Iran condemns US calls for disarming Hezbollah

The Iranian foreign ministry on Monday condemned Washington’s calls for disarming Hezbollah in Lebanon, noting that “this decision is a domestic affair that no side has the right to interfere in.”

“The issue of arms and defense is a domestic affair for any country and any third party should not be involved in it, especially if it is party to the conflict,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.

“America is not in a position that allows it to impose its stances on the Lebanese parties and this decision must be taken by all Lebanese components,” Baghaei added.

“The right to resistance is part of the legitimate defense right and it is acknowledged by international law as an indispensable right, especially in our region which is facing an entity such as the Zionist entity,” the spokesman went on to say, adding that “it is not possible to speak of disarmament in the face of such an entity.”
