The Israeli military says it has killed another high-ranking Hezbollah official in an airstrike.
The military said Sunday that it killed Sheikh Nabil Qaouq, the former deputy head of Hezbollah's Executive Council, in an airstrike the day before. The Israeli army said Qaouq is a member of Hezbollah's central council and the head of the group's preventive security unit.
There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah. Reports had said that the strike targeted the Beirut southern suburb of Shiyyah.
Qaouq was a veteran member of Hezbollah going back to the 1980s and had previously served as Hezbollah's military commander in southern Lebanon. The United States had announced sanctions against him in 2020.
Several senior Hezbollah commanders have been killed in Israeli strikes in recent weeks, including the group's overall leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
