Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Friday called on Speaker Nabih Berri to schedule parliamentary sessions aimed at discussing the current Israel-Hezbollah escalation and electing a new president for the country.
"Can anyone explain to me what is preventing Speaker Nabih Berri from calling the Parliament to convene urgently to discuss the tragedy that the Lebanese people are currently experiencing, especially if we remember that ten MPs had submitted a written request on July 22, 2024 to set a date for a session to interrogate the government regarding the measures that must be taken to spare the South and Lebanon war," Geagea said in a statement.
He also called on Berri to “immediately call for an actual session, not a formal one, as was the case in the past, to elect a president for the republic, in light of the tragedy that the Lebanese people are currently experiencing.”
”Doesn't the disruption of constitutional institutions in Lebanon, especially the presidency, serve the enemies of Lebanon, especially Israel? Is it permissible for the suffering of the Lebanese to continue after they had enough of the difficult financial, economic and social conditions?” Geagea wondered.
“They have been displaced inside their country and they are living a tragedy after a tragedy,” the LF leader lamented.
He concluded: “It is no longer permissible for the actual state to remain absent and for us to remain in the bitter reality that we have been living in for the last thirty years of our history.”
