US in 'negotiations' at UN meetings over Lebanon solution

Washington is conducting negotiations on the security developments between Lebanon and Israel on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, sources have told Sky News Arabia.

“A meeting of Arab foreign ministers was held yesterday in New York to discuss reaching a solution that would prevent a descent into an all-out war in the Middle East,” the sources said.

“Arab parties, in coordination with France, are communicating with Iran in order to produce the understandings required for a solution,” the sources added.

“The efforts by U.S. presidential envoy Amos Hochstein are based on what was agreed on with the Lebanese parliament speaker regarding the implementation of U.N. resolution 1701 and reaching a ceasefire,” the sources said.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan meanwhile told MSNBC that the best way to return the residents of north Israel is a diplomatic solution, adding that Washington will work on it this week.

He added that U.S. President Joe Biden will discuss with other leaders a ceasefire and avoiding a full-scale war in the Middle East.

Sullivan also said that Washington is determined to avert a war between Israel and Hezbollah.
