2 Israeli troops killed as Israel announces airstrikes on Hezbollah

Israel's army announced new strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on Thursday, as warning sirens rang out in northern Israel, indicating possible incoming fire.

The army "is currently striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon to degrade Hezbollah's terrorist capabilities and infrastructure," a statement said, adding that it was part of efforts to return displaced Israelis to their homes in the north.

The Israeli military also said that two soldiers were killed on Thursday in Hezbollah rockets strikes near Israel's northern the border with Lebanon.

Reservist Major Nael Fwarsy, 43, and Sergeant Tomer Keren, 20, "fell in combat," in separate incidents, a military statement said.

Hezbollah appeared to intensify its cross-border attacks on Thursday, after thousands of its operatives' communication devices exploded across Lebanon in deadly attacks blamed on Israel that killed 37 people and wounded nearly 3,000 more across two days.
