Member of Syrian National Council to Participate in Feb. 14 Ceremony

A member of the Syrian National Council is likely to participate in the February 14 ceremony marking the seventh anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, reported the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper on Sunday.

It explained that the presence of a member of the council will demonstrate the March 14 camp’s support for the Syrian revolution.

In addition, it will “cover up the absence of former Premier Saad Hariri” who so far will be unable to attend for health reasons after he recently broke his leg.

Furthermore, al-Anbaa ruled out the possibility of the head of the council Burhan Ghalioun attending the ceremony.

The March 14 leadership decided following days of consultations to mark the anniversary of Hariri’s assassination on Tuesday, February 14 at the Beirut International Exhibition & Leisure Center, An Nahar daily reported on Friday.

The coalition’s leaders also agreed to hold a mass rally at the Martyrs Square in downtown Beirut on March 14.

The BIEL ceremony will include speeches by March 14 leaders, including ex-Premier Saad Hariri, who is most likely to address supporters, politicians, and academicians through a giant screen.

Hariri is recuperating at his house in Paris after suffering from fractures in his left leg during a ski accident in the French Alps.

Rafik Hariri was killed in a massive suicide car bombing in Beirut on February 14, 2005.
