Hizbullah: Situation in Lebanon Must Return to Normal as Soon as Possible

Hizbullah stressed on Friday the need for a productive government that can help alleviate the burdens of the Lebanese people, reported the National News Agency.

Hizbullah politburo member Ghaleb Abu Zainab stated: “It is therefore important for the governmental process to return to normal as soon as possible because its current paralysis will harm the Lebanese people.”

He made his statements after a Hizbullah politburo delegation held talks with the Tashnag party at its Bourj Hammoud headquarters.

Abu Zainab continued: “We are also in agreement that stability in Lebanon is crucial and it therefore requires all political parties to cooperate to maintain it and distance the country from any foreign influences.”

Addressing Hizbullah and Tashnag party efforts to ease the tensions between Prime Minister Najib Miqati and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, he remarked: “All sides should cooperate to overcome this current phase and restore normalcy in Lebanon.”

Asked why Hizbullah is not exerting efforts to resume the national dialogue, Abu Zainab replied: “We are working for dialogue and we are open to all sides.”

The party has held talks with the majority of the political and spiritual powers in Lebanon, including the Maronite Patriarchate, which is aimed at asserting national unity, he added.

“We have not shut the door to holding talks with any side,” he said in response to question on whether Hizbullah would bolster ties with the Mustaqbal Movement.

“We are prepared to meet with all sides and therefore contacts are ongoing with all powers,” he continued.

“We believe that the recent developments at cabinet were a result of differences in opinion,” said the Hizbullah official.

“This dispute can be overcome and rectified through good intentions and all sides will return to cabinet to continue what we started together,” stressed Abu Zainab.

On Wednesday, Miqati suspended a cabinet session at the Baabda Palace over an ongoing dispute over the issue of administrative appointments.

The suspension was prompted when FPM ministers walked out from the session.

He consequently decided to suspend all cabinet sessions until the dispute with the FPM is resolved.

“The move is meant to push everyone to act responsibly and use their energy positively, towards the smooth run of state affairs not the opposite,” the prime minister said on his Twitter account on Wednesday.

A dispute between President Michel Suleiman and Aoun over shares allotted to Christians has prevented consensus over administrative appointments, leaving several high-ranking posts vacant.
