Speaker Nabih Berri stated on Thursday that Lebanon’s policy of distancing itself from the developments in the Arab world has preserved the Lebanese people’s interests.
He said: “Lebanon’s positive neutrality on all issues, except those related to Israel, has protected the country’s interests.”
Lebanon has distanced itself from any Arab or international decision that condemns Syria’s crackdown against anti-regime protests that began in March 2011.
Lebanon however did advocate, along with France, England, and the United States, U.N. Security Council resolution 1973 that called for imposing a no-fly zone over Libya during the country’s revolution in 2011.
