Al-Mustaqbal Plans on Hariri Murder Anniversary Not Clear Yet

Almost two weeks before the anniversary of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s Feb. 14, 2005 assassination, the Mustaqbal movement hasn’t so far announced any plans on whether it will hold a rally.

The movement’s logistics official, Saleh Faroukh, told An Nahar in remarks published Monday that “the decision hasn’t been taken” yet.

He didn’t provide further details but stressed that al-Mustaqbal had in the past reserved the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Center a week before an event.

“Logistics issues are not a problem,” he said.

According to An Nahar, the movement’s secretary general Ahmed Hariri was still in Paris Sunday night. He is visiting his cousin former Prime Minister Saad Hariri who is now recuperating at his home for fractures in his left leg resulting from a ski accident.

A Mustaqbal movement official also told the daily that he had no information about the assassination anniversary. “I believe we will know within two days.”

He said Saad Hariri was planning to attend the event but he may not participate in the anniversary of his father’s killing due to his leg injury.

Another high-ranking official told An Nahar that the event could be postponed to March 14. He stressed that they would find out about the decision upon Ahmed Hariri’s return from Paris.
