Protesters at Egypt Embassy in Beirut Demand Mubarak Resign

More than 200 people rallied outside the Egyptian embassy in Beirut on Sunday, calling for the resignation of embattled President Hosni Mubarak as protests in Egypt raged for a sixth straight day.

"Mubarak is an Israeli puppet," and "Gamal, tell your father that the Egyptian people hate him," protesters chanted during the student-led demonstration in Beirut.

They held up Egyptian and Tunisian flags as well as photos of late Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser.

"Egypt is free and not an Arab kingdom," banners read, as well as "Who is responsible for the blood of the martyrs among protesters?"

Egyptians and Tunisians in Lebanon also joined the protest which unfolded amid a sizable police presence.

Tunisians say it was their revolt against authoritarian ruler Zine El Abidine Ben Ali earlier this month that inspired the massive protest movement against Mubarak in Egypt.(AFP)
