President Michel Aoun and Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq said Monday the parliamentary elections will be held on time based on the newly agreed proportional representation electoral system.
Aoun, speaking to members of the 11-member Election Supervisory Committee at the Baabda Palace, stressed saying Lebanon will stage timely polls, he said: “Parliamentary elections will be held on time based on the newly agreed electoral law.”
On a similar note and after meeting Aoun, Mashnouq said: “The polls will be held on time without any thought of postponement or extension.”
The Election Supervisory Committee took an oath before Aoun Monday, in a move that would legitimize its proceedings.
Lebanon's elections are expected to be held in May 2018.
