Man Hurt as Syrian 'Gunmen' Fire on Turkish Travelers

Armed men fired on the cars of two Turks near the Syrian city of Idlib, slightly injuring one of them, Anatolia news agency reported Thursday.

Mehmet Akinay and Nesim Zeytinci were driving to Saudi Arabia through Syria in cars with non-Turkish license plates when they came under fire from gunmen in civilian clothes 15 kilometers from Idlib, Anatolia said.

One of the cars was hit by 17 bullets, and the other three, according to Turkish police.

The pair fled back to the Turkish border at Cilvegozu, where they spoke to reporters.

Akinay had a leg injury but Zeytinci was unharmed, Anatolia said.

"We were filled with fear on our way back to Turkey," Zeytinci said, adding that they had taken shelter in a Syrian village at first.

Syrian security forces killed a Saudi-Turkish citizen during a crackdown on an anti-regime protest in northwest Syria Tuesday, opposition sources said.
