Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Thursday that Lebanon is an active member of the international community and the Arab world.
He said after holding talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykola Azarov: “No one can isolate Lebanon and it will not be isolated from the international and Arab communities.”
“We have been through some difficult circumstances and we have proven that we are keen on maintaining the country’s stability,” he added.
“This is the government’s main purpose and hopefully Lebanon will not be affected by the regional developments,” noted the premier.
On his meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffery Feltman on Wednesday, Miqati said that the American official was not seeking to deliver a message to Lebanon.
He only relayed a letter from U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton in which she expressed her gratitude over Lebanon’s decision to fund the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, he added.
For his part, Azarov stated that his meeting with the Lebanese premier focused on bolstering cooperating between the two countries in various fields.
Feltman arrived in Lebanon on Tuesday night on a two-day official visit during which he is scheduled to hold talks with a number of Lebanese officials.
