Prime Minister Najib Miqati stated on Friday that Lebanon was successful in tackling its duty of funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which he said helped serve justice.
He said during the opening of the 55th Arab International Book Fair at Biel: “Lebanon was victorious in the funding and now governmental work will be resumed once again.”
“The real accomplishment lies in the international community fulfilling all of its obligations towards Lebanon,” he stressed.
“That way, we will be able to preserve our country’s interest and achieve the youth’s aspirations and rise of the state,” he stressed.
Miqati’s statements came shortly after Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah had called on the premier on Thursday to include the false witnesses file on cabinet’s agenda.
The false witnesses are linked to the investigation in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, which the STL is looking into.
Miqati did not respond to Nasrallah’s demand, but Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas had stated on Friday that the premier had been studying the possibility of tackling the case before cabinet.
Once Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi files a report on the matter, then it can be addressed at cabinet, he explained.
