Three Palestinians were wounded by Israeli gunfire east of Gaza City on Monday, a Gaza medical official and the Israeli military said.
"Three Palestinians were wounded by Israel fire in the Shejaiyah district east of Gaza City," emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya told Agence France Presse, saying one was moderately hurt and the other two sustained light injuries.
A statement from the military said troops had fired on "a terrorist squad planting two explosive devices adjacent to the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip. The soldiers fired towards the suspects, confirming a hit."
The incident came two days after a militant from the armed wing of Islamic Jihad was killed and three others wounded in a series of Israeli air strikes in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.
Low-level unrest has rumbled on in and around Gaza for the past week but has not deteriorated into all-out fighting as it did on October 29-30 when tit-for-tat violence left 12 Palestinian militants and an Israeli civilian dead.
Militant groups say they are observing an Egyptian-brokered truce agreement but have reserved the right to reply to any Israeli fire, while Israel has said it will target any militants poised to fire rockets across the border.
