2 Wounded as Jaafar, Zoaiter Clans Clash in Baalbek

Two people were wounded on Tuesday by stray bullets during armed clashes between the Jaafar and Zoaiter clans in the Bekaa city of Baalbek.

Rocket-propelled grenades were also fired in the air during the fighting, according to state-run National News Agency.

“Syrian nationals Sabr Awad al-Mohammed and Fadi Tallouj were critically injured in the clashes, which required transferring them to the government hospital for surgeries,” NNA added.

The violence also smashed the glass of some cars and gunshots hit a house and a restaurant in the area, the agency added.

According to Future TV, the clashes lasted for more than two hours and “residents urged the army to intervene and stop the fighting, which involved the use of machineguns and RPGs.”

A brief clash had occurred between the two clans on Sunday.

The neighborhood has witness recurrent clashes in recent years, which left several people dead, despite the army's implementation of a security plan in the region that saw the arrest of many fugitives.
