Many of Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie roles have involved large bodies of water, like Titanic and Gatsby. But that’s not why the actor is going to the State Department Tuesday for the Ocean Conference.
He’s actually something of an expert on the topic — his foundation just gave $3 million to conservation efforts.
Secretary of State John Kerry says it was that “dedication” to environmental issues that prompted him to invite DiCaprio, who will speak after a video message from President Obama.
“I’m pleased that Leo DiCaprio is lending his powerful voice to our call to action to work together to protect the world’s ocean,” Kerry said in a statement.
