Severe Floods Hit Serbia and Bosnia

Severe flooding in Serbia and Bosnia has forced schools to close and hundreds of people to evacuate their homes and left thousands more without power.

In Serbia one person has drowned and a state of emergency has been declared in the worst-hit areas after two days of torrential rain.

More than 500 people have been evacuated from western and southwestern parts of Serbia. Schools in the capital Belgrade will remain closed for the rest of the week.

In neighboring Bosnia, hundreds of homes were cut off or flooded after the Miljacka river, which runs through Sarajevo, broke its banks on Wednesday.

Some 3,500 homes in the capital were left without power. Authorities said emergency workers were supplying food and medicines to those who could not leave their homes.
