Jumblat: Funniest Thing about Security Plan is that Top Militants were Forewarned

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat voiced surprise Tuesday that some political parties had “forewarned” the leaders of the fighting frontiers in Tripoli and advised them to escape ahead of the security plan that got underway earlier in the day.

“In a magical way ... and after the genius, high-ranking political and security officials obtained miraculous powers, the implementation of the Tripoli security plan got underway, after the city was battered with 20 rounds of fighting,” Jumblat said in a statement.

He noted that the political cover has been finally lifted off the neighborhood thugs and top militants in an “actual” manner, after it was “lifted dozens of times theoretically.”

“The funniest thing about the security plan, which we cannot but support and wish success for …, is that it forewarned all the leaders of the fighting frontiers that it was coming, which enables (Arab Democratic Party political relations official) Rifaat Eid to continue his higher studies at the University of California, Berkeley,” Jumblat added.

“It is not unlikely that the leaders of the fighting frontiers might occupy the front seats at the most prestigious universities of Europe, and they might go to Paris, London and Berlin if they confirm that their financial resources have been seriously cut off this time due to the security plan,” the PSP leader went on to say.

He pointed out that it had been possible to avoid 20 rounds of clashes that killed “hundreds of innocent civilians” and soldiers instead of “exhausting Tripoli over the presidential, ministerial, parliamentary and local calculations of some officials.”

“Tripoli deserves life and it definitely deserves leaders who are able to run its affairs, achieve development and execute social and economic projects,” Jumblat stressed.

A security plan devised by the Higher Defense Council and adopted by cabinet got underway on Tuesday morning in Tripoli and the North, amid the fleeing of the most prominent leaders of the Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh fighting frontiers.
