Pala Says Racing Beirut Eying League Title, Won't Leave Team Anytime Soon

Libor Pala, the renowned Czech coach of the Racing Beirut football club, on Wednesday announced that his team is qualified for winning the Lebanese league title, stressing that he does not have any plans to move from the capital's blue squad anytime soon.

"The team has a fighting spirit and it has showed a noteworthy performance until the moment,” Pala said in an interview with the Lebanese daily al-Joumhouria.

Pala noted that he employed all his experience and coaching skills to pull the team out of the crisis it had faced last year, when it risked falling to the second division league.

“A huge responsibility rested on my shoulders and we managed due to the responsiveness of the players and the club's administration to achieve the third place,” the coach added.

“We have carried on with the same spirit this season through the efforts of everyone and the solidarity of the administrative committee, the coaching staff and the players, and we have managed to reach the league's top spot, leaving behind most of the teams that are competing for the title,” Pala went on to say.

“My style and approach, the players' good apprehension of my plans and my analysis of every match are the steps that have led to success,” he pointed out.

Asked which teams other than Racing had a serious chance to win the title, Pala nominated Nejmeh, Safa and al-Ahed.

And in response to a question about whether or not he would accept to manage the Lebanese national team, Pala said it would be difficult to answer such a question in the current time, noting that Racing is his “top priority.”

The coach revealed that he has been receiving offers from several local clubs since last season.

“The club's administration knows this, especially its president George Farah, and I have told everyone that no matter how much an offer might be tempting, I will only coach Racing while in Lebanon,” he added.
