Moussawi: There Can Be No National Consensus without Agreeing on Resistance

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwaf al-Moussawi declared on Monday that the resistance is an integral part of Lebanon, while reiterating Hizbullah's rejection of the formation of a “de facto” government.

He said: “There can be no national consensus without agreeing on the resistance.”

“A de facto cabinet is illegitimate and unconstitutional,” he remarked.

Commenting on the assassination of former Finance Minister Mohammed Shatah, Moussawi noted: “The crime should have motivated all political parties to unite to confront the danger threatening the Lebanese people.”

“Instead however we were met with an attempt to exploit the crime in order to alter the balance of power in Lebanon,” he added.

“Some sides used the assassination for intimidation,” he remarked.

“Those resorting to intimidation through escalating their political rhetoric to pressure the prime minister-designate and president should realize that their attempts will fail,” he stressed,

Moussawi therefore renewed the demand for the formation of a cabinet that grants nine ministers to each of the March 8 and 14 camps and six ministers to centrists.

“Such a government will pave the way to reviving parliament, which should in turn lead to staging the presidential elections,” he explained.

Shatah was assassinated in a major car bombing in downtown Beirut on Friday.

Seven other people were killed in the blast.
