Associated Press photographer Emilio Morenatti has won a photo contest hosted by South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.
Yonhap said Tuesday that Morenatti's photos of cholera victims in Haiti last year earned him a $30,000 prize.
Yonhap says its award is meant to promote United Nations goals to fight poverty, hunger and disease and achieve universal primary education.
The contest drew more than 5,500 photos from photographers in 71 countries. AP director of photography Santiago Lyon chaired a board of judges that evaluated entries for more than a month. Lyon recused himself after the first two rounds of voting to avoid a conflict of interest.
Others received awards of $5,000.
A photo exhibition will run Aug. 10-Sept. 30 in Seoul and Aug. 22-Sept. 9 at the U.N. in New York.
