World Bank Chief Slams U.S. Leadership on Doha Round

World Bank President Robert Zoellick has criticized the United States for its lack of leadership in pushing for a new global trade agreement.

Zoellick says U.S. administration complaints that the so-called Doha round of trade talks are structurally flawed are an excuse for failed leadership.

The former top U.S. trade negotiator under President George W. Bush says Washington is still the best candidate to lead an effort to close the 10-year-old round of talks meant to add billions to the global economy.

Zoellick told a meeting in Geneva on Monday that rather than aim for a more modest agreement members of the World Trade Organization should "double down on Doha."

He says if countries are ambitious but fail it will be easier to apportion blame.
